Recently, the Kerala State Health
Department has confirmed the spread of Nipah virus (NiV) in the state. This
virus has been confirmed by a team of doctors conducted by the blood and
physical fluids of the victims. Nipah virus was registered in Kerala's Kozhikode
district where both of the victims died.
According to information published by the
media, so far 6 people of the state have been killed by the night virus, while
others are admitted to hospitals but they have not been confirmed as suffering
from this virus.
Union Health Minister JP Nadda has
sent a specialist team of doctors from New Delhi to Kerala. JP Nadda directed
the director of the National Center for Disease Control to visit the affected
districts and take necessary steps.
What is NIV Virus (NiV)?
It is an infection that makes the
victims of fruits eat their food by eating fruit bats. This infection was first
seen in pigs but later this virus was also reached to humans. In 2004, a Nipah
virus started attacking humans in Bangladesh. Nipah virus spreads on bats by
eating bats and after eating the same fruit by humans. It contains mostly dates
and today.
How does Nipah virus spread?
• According to experts, this virus
spreads by bats. They are also called fruit bats.
• When these bats eat any fruit and
the same fruit or vegetable eats any person or animal then it gets infected.
• No vaccine has been prepared till now.
• The death rate of infected person
is 74.5 percent.
• For the first time this virus was
detected by Dr. Ko Bing Chua in 1998. During that time Dr Bing was graduating
from the University of Malaya, Malaysia.
